New Bloomfield's Bedsworth, Granich qualify for state meet

Lady Wildcats senior Sydni Bedsworth will return to the Class 1 girls' cross country championships after her performance at the District 3 championships on Saturday at Bowling Green High School.

New Bloomfield junior Nicolas Granlich finished 13th in the boy's run to earn his first-ever state meet qualification.

Bedsworth - who finished 106th in 2013 - clocked an 11th-place time of 25 minutes, 48.84 seconds as New Bloomfield's lone competitor in the girls' race. Chamois junior Autumn Baker took top individual honors in 21:32.41, while New Haven won the team championship.

Granlich ran a time of 19:20.65 as New Bloomfield earned fifth place in the team standings. Juniors Charlie Schattgen (20:28.79) and Cameron Engelbrecht (20:40.96) took 19th and 21st, respectively.

Sophomore Zain Culwell finished 23rd in 20:54.75 and senior Marshall Woods placed 26th in a time of 21:24.08.

New Haven senior Dominick Pataky earned the district title with a time of 17:52.46 as Shamrocks also garnered district hardware with a first-place team total of 19 points.

The Class 1 girls' race begins at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City, while the boy's run begins at 12:30 p.m.
