Barone scores twice, Westminster blanks MacMurray in SLIAC win

Freshman midfielder Daniel Barone scored twice as the Blue Jays blanked the Highlanders 5-0 in SLIAC play to close the regular season on Saturday.

Westminster (9-7-1, 7-1-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) outshot MacMurray 11-1.

Barone scored on a corner kick in the 1st minute, then scored in the 52nd minute on sophomore midfielder Tripp Sheehan's assist.

Junior midfielder Kevin Knobbe, sophomore forward Peter Garber and sophomore forward Keagan Cavanah also added goals to boost the Blue Jays to their seventh win its the last 10 games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero saved the only shot he faced.

Westminster - the defending SLIAC regular season and tournament champions - are the No. 2 seed in this weekend's conference tournament. The Blue Jays host No. 3 Spalding at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The teams finished in a 2-2 tie on Oct. 18th in Louisville, Kentucky.
