Oberdiek, Lady Bulldogs place fourth in Class 2

JEFFERSON CITY - Sparked by junior Hannah Oberdiek's first individual state title in the long jump, the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs finished fourth as a team as the Class 2 state track and field championships concluded Saturday.

South Callaway compiled 29 points in the two-day championships at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium. Lutheran St. Charles captured the Class 2 girls' team title with 63 points.

Senior Taylor Howard medalled for the Lady Bulldogs by placing eighth in the pole vault late Saturday afternoon with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches. Brookfield senior Alese Frey won the state title with a jump of 12-1/2.

The South Callaway boys - led by senior Garner Rudroff's repeat state championship in the long jump - came in 14th in Class 2 with 15 points. Lamar secured the team title with 91 points.

Senior Josh Brooks just missed medalling for the Bulldogs in the discus late Saturday afternoon, taking ninth with a throw of 136-10. Lamar senior Ben Bailey claimed the state championship with a toss of 158-2.

In the Class 1 boys' division, Missouri School for the Deaf senior Nick Jones scored 34 points by himself to carry the Eagles to a fifth-place team finish. Jones picked up his second consecutive state title in the 100 meters, but was unable to duplicate the same feat in the 200 after coming in second. He also medalled with second-place finishes in both the 400 and long jump.

Greenfield grabbed the Class 1 boys' team championship with 57.5 points.
