Bulldog bats quiet in District 13 semifinal loss to Blair Oaks

Junior third baseman Troy Hentges supplied the fourth-seeded Bulldogs' only hit in their 2-1 Class 3, District 13 semifinal loss to the top-seeded Falcons on Monday.

South Callaway ends its season at 17-6.

Blair Oaks (22-8) plays No. 2 seeded Fatima - the defending Class 3 state champions - for the district title at 6 tonight.

The Falcons plated a run in the bottom of the second inning to grab the early lead. Hentges led off the top of the fifth with a double center field. Senior third baseman Ethan Ward bunted him over to third base, but an errant throw by Blair Oaks allowed Ward to reach first and Hentges to score and even the game at 1-all.

The Falcons quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning and held on for the semifinal victory.

Hentges finished 1-for-2, while senior pitcher Smith Kemper took the loss for the Bulldogs. Kemper struck out seven over six innings, gave up two runs - one earned - on six hits, while walking two.

"This particular district, there's a lot of quality teams," South Callaway head coach Heath Lepper said. "You look at the top five teams...those are all No. 1 seeds in any district and we have them all in one."
