Fulton sophomore Jacob Hammerstone shot an 87 to finish in a tie for 34th place at the Class 3, Sectional 2 championships Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Course.
Hammerstone - the Hornets' only sectional qualifier - didn't log the top-15 finish needed to qualify for next week's Class 3 state championships. However, Fulton head coach Pat Kelley was pleased with what he saw from Hammerstone in his first season on the team.
"For a first-year guy, Jacob had an extremely good season and it was a great experience for him," Kelley said. "He had two or three bad holes and that adds up. The higher and higher you compete, the less room you have for mistakes."
Boonville's Brett Windsor was individual medalist with a 2-over par 72. North Central Missouri Conference rival Hannibal captured the Sectional 2 team title with a 318.
The Class 3 state championships take place next Monday and Tuesday at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa.
