Kingdom Christian Academy to host first-ever Service Day May 15

School still seeks service projects in community for some students

On the last day of school for Kingdom Christian Academy, students and staff will be participating in a Service Day. This is the first year the event will take place, in lieu of a field day.

"My hope is to take care of some needs," said KCA Administrator Paulette Eichman. "We're trying to make an investment in people and in our community."

All of the classes of KCA will be doing a service project somewhere in the community on the afternoon of the last day of school. Students from kindergarten through ninth grade are involved in these service projects.

Some of the projects include packing lunches for Our House, reading to preschoolers, visiting local nursing homes, writing letters to local service people, painting headstones at Fulton State Hospital and doing yard work for those in need.

The students in each class have chosen ways in which to donate their time and services on this afternoon, and the projects listed "are just some of the projects chosen by the classes," according to an email from Kingdom Christian Academy.

There are still students and classes available to participate in service activities.

According to Eichman, the school advertising this event to the community will hopefully "generate some people that need help."

"We are really looking forward to these opportunities," KCA stated in the same email.

On a normal field day, the students would participate in various outdoor activities. In the past the student council has funded a blow-up obstacle course, and many of the field days have been held in Veterans Park.

This year, though, it was decided to align the day with the school's mission of promoting servant-hood and hold a Service Day instead.

Instead of spending the money on events for the field day this year, the student council put between $1.50 and $2 towards every Service Day shirt that KCA sold. Eichman said almost 150 shirts were sold.
