Crisp, Thunderbirds cruise by Van-Far in EMO baseball action

Junior third baseman Trevor Crisp had three hits, knocked in three runs and scored three times in sparking the Thunderbirds' 14-4 EMO romp over the winless Indians on Tuesday night.

After Van-Far plated three runs in the top of the second inning, North Callaway erupted for 10 runs in its half of the inning to take command. The Indians (0-12, 0-7 Eastern Missouri Conference) added their other run in the third, but the Thunderbirds (13-7, 7-1) tacked on three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to stop the game on the mercy rule.

Crisp went 3-for-3 with a double as North Callaway piled up 12 hits. Junior winning pitcher Brandon Hagedorn finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored, while junior center fielder Cole Branson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored once.

Junior left fielder Zach McCowan also went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Hagedorn (2-0) gave up four runs - three earned - on six hits in going the distance for the victory. He logged six strikeouts and walked none.

"Brandon threw an excellent game; I liked the fact that he didn't walk a single batter," Thunderbirds head coach Kevin O'Neal said. "Trevor Crisp also had a great game at the plate."

North Callaway (6-9-1) played to a 5-5 tie in the junior varsity game.

The Thunderbirds square off against Hallsville for third place at the 20th-annual Fulton Tournament at 4 p.m. Friday.
