Low claims equal low rates for ambulance district

Another year of low claims has resulted in another workers compensation insurance rate decrease for the Callaway County Ambulance District.

Tim Powers with Missouri General Insurance presented the district's Board of Directors with what he described as a "very, very good quote" from Missouri Employers Mutual during the board's regular meeting Tuesday night.

"You got a 25 percent reduction last year. We were able to push and get another 25 percent decrease this year," Powers said.

The district's new annual premium is $67,815 - down from $90,800 last year.

"You're trending in the right direction at the right time," Powers said.

He said if the district continues in that direction, it likely will have good news again next year - especially in light of the fact that the previous three claim years are what are used to help determine the rate.

"You had $57,000 in claims for 2010-11 - that falls off next year," Powers said. "If you have another clean year this year, you're really going to be in great shape."
