Two Callaway County trials postponed this week

New dates to be determined in Pamela Carter, Jacie Coari cases

Two Central Missouri women arrested on unrelated charges will have their days in court at a later date.

The trials for Pamela Carter and Jacie Coari, originally both scheduled to begin this week, have been rescheduled. Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson said the trials will have a new date set in the coming weeks.

Both women were arrested on charges stemming from high-profile cases the Fulton Sun and area media covered in 2011 and 2012. Coari was arrested for her alleged involvement in a double murder near Auxvasse, and Carter faces charges relating to the robbery and beating of a Fulton woman abducted from the Walmart parking lot.

Coari and Carter were both originally scheduled for trial 9 a.m. Monday in the Callaway County Courthouse. Wilson said Coari’s trial was originally granted a continuance to avoid having two cases that could take several days to hear start at the same time.

“Her case was set behind Pamela Carter’s case, and when we expected her case to go most if not the entire week, then everyone knew they weren’t going to get to the Coari case, so neither the defense or the state brought in witnesses,” Wilson said. “There will be a lot of witnesses both sides, I imagine, so both state and defense in Coari’s case knew that case would not be reach.”

Carter’s continuance came later, when she petitioned for time to seek private counsel on March 7. Court records published online through Missouri’s online records system Case.net state Carter was originally represented by Assistant Public Defender Mary Joe Smith, but had asked to be placed with a different public defender.
