Lady Blue Jays swept by UW-Platteville to open season

Westminster opened up its season with a pair of losses to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Monday at Blue Jay Field. The Lady Blue Jays fell 11-1 in the second game while dropping the opener 7-6 in nine innings.

Westminster found itself in a 5-0 hole before it was able to get on the board in the second game. Lady Blue Jays freshman starter Alyson Hahn gave up a run in the top of the second inning and two runs each in the third and fourth innings, respectively as Westminster found itself trailing.

Senior left fielder Becca Rose singled in the Lady Blue Jays’ lone run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-1 contest. UW-Platteville responded with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings as they limited Westminster to just four hits.

Lady Owls finish Lindenwood-Belleville Tournament at 3-1

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The William Woods pitching staff put the clamps on opposing bats with wins over Lindenwood-Bellveille and Roosevelt University, respectively on Sunday to close out the Lindenwood-Belleville Tournament on Sunday.

Lady Owls senior starter MacKenzie Bowden threw allowed just four hits in a complete-game effort as William Woods downed Lindenwood-Belleville 6-1 in Sunday’s final game. Bowden allowed an earned run, walked two and struck out 14 to notch her sixth complete-game victory of the season.

COLUMBIA — The Owls were roughed up for a season-high five home runs in a loss to the Central Methodist Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Hickman High School baseball field.

Eagles third baseman Hayden McMillon smacked a 3-run home run off of William Woods sophomore starter Garret Haslag for the early lead. Senior first baseman Matt Thomas scored on freshman shortstop Tyler Nemmers’ RBI single in the bottom of the second to trim the Owls’ advantage to 3-1.

William Woods tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the third when junior pinch runner Javier Ledesma and senior left fielder Zach Nichols scored after redshirt junior designated hitter Dustin Kremer reached base on a throwing error.
