A Fulton man was arrested last weekend, accused of stealing his mother's identity to buy electronics, tools and sex toys. He's also charged with possession of drugs and gun violations.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, May 24, an officer met with Cody Thomas Ousley, 34, and his mother, Catherine Ousley, in the lobby at the Fulton Police Department. Someone had racked up $3,000 in charges on Catherine's credit card and a new credit card that had been opened in her name.
According to the probable cause statement, the officer determined Cody obtained a PayPal credit card using his mother's name, social security number and birth date. The probable cause statement listed several specific purchases - like a Pyle amplifier valued at $107 and a Genius vehicle dash camera valued at $164 - along with general purchases including tools, electronics, sex toys, car parts and "a multitude of other items totaling approximately $3,000."
The probable cause statement also noted that Cody admitted to taking Catherine's credit card from her purse without permission and bought a $500 gift card to Walgreen's.
At the time of his arrest, Cody consented to police searching his vehicle. Officers said they found methamphetamine and marijuana. They also found a handgun - which was illegal for Cody to possess because he has a prior felony conviction - that had the serial numbers scratched off. Officers said they also found several pipes with "burnt drug residue in the bowls."
Ousley has been charged with fraudulent use of a credit/debit device, forgery possession of a controlled substance, theft, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He's due in court June 6.
He pleaded guilty to second degree burglary (a felony) in 1997, according to online court records.
