Kingdom City A suspect in the Kingdom City Post Office robbery is in federal custody.
Lucas Branstetter, 38, of Kingdom City has been arrested and charged with the federal offense of robbing a postal employee, according to a press release from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.
A robbery was reported at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the post office on Old Highway 40 in Kingdom City. The suspect fled on a motorcycle.
Authorities found Branstetter in Laclede County, near Lebanon.
Laclede County Sheriff's deputies made contact with Branstetter during "a routine suspicious activity call," the press release stated.
Laclede County deputies accused Branstetter of being in possession of a stolen black Harley Davidson motorcycle from the Kansas City area. Branstetter was arrested by Laclede County authorities and taken to the Laclede County Jail.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and United States Postal Inspection Service investigators went to Laclede County to conduct a follow up investigation in that area related to the Kingdom City post office robbery.
Following the investigation, the U.S. Attorney's Office charged Branstetter with robbing a postal employee and he was transferred to federal custody "at an undisclosed location," the press release stated.
Branstetter has several past felony convictions spanning across Central Missouri to include Boone, Callaway, Osage, Cole and Audrain counties including charges of robbery, burglary, and forgery, according to the press release.
At the time of Branstetter’s arrest, he was under the supervision of the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole.
The investigation will continue in conjunction with the United States Postal Inspection Service. Other assisting agencies with the initial robbery investigation were the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Auxvasse Police Department.
