William Woods wins third straight AMC President’s Cup

The William Woods University athletic department recently claimed the American Midwest Conference President’s Cup for the third year in a row. The trophy is given to the conference’s all-sports champion.

William Woods totaled 557.5 points out of a possible 660 to wrap up the honor. Park University finished second with 492.5 points, while Columbia College (470), Missouri Baptist University (420) and Freed-Hardeman University (375.5) rounded out the top five.

The fall/winter sports seasons saw William Woods send four teams and one athlete — women’s cross country, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s cross country runner Kaleb Wilson — to national competition.

The school followed that up with a stellar spring season as every sport had a team or individual athlete qualify for their respective national championships.

“Winning the President’s Cup is a great way to finish the 2013-14 season,” said William Woods’ Jason Vittone, who on Tuesday was named the AMC’s 2013-14 athletic director of the year. “The achievements of our student-athletes and coaches were fun to watch.

“I think the award signifies the university’s commitment to giving every sport and student-athlete an opportunity to be successful at a high level. Having a great support from our administration, faculty and staff makes this a great institution to work for.”
