Kingdom City trustees approve budget with surplus

The Trustees of the Village of Kingdom City approved a budget Tuesday night that Municipal Manager Curt Warfield said "looks better than ever."

Warfield said the village's Fiscal Year 2014-15 budget includes $841,849 in revenue and expenditures of $417,538, resulting in a surplus of $424,310.

"That's the best surplus we've had to-date, and it's going to allow us to do some paving projects," he said.

Warfield said capital improvements from the last fiscal year included purchase of a new tractor, a brush hog mower, a four-bay rock/salt building, a salt spreader, a new 100 hp well pump and motor and soft starter for the well pump, repairs to a damaged storm siren and the final large payment for water tower improvements.

He attributed that final water tower payment - which had been approximately $118,000 annually over the last several years - as one of the biggest reasons for the 2014-15 surplus.

Warfield said a chunk of that surplus will be used to pave about a half mile of roads around town at an estimated cost of $100,000, as well as repaving a section of the business complex at an estimated $245,000. The board of trustees approved putting the paving project out to bid.

In other business, Warfield said the board talked about regulation of mobile homes inside village limits. He said the village's attorney is looking at the current ordinance with plans to tighten it up.
