Cat in the Hat to visit Callaway

Auxvasse Elementary to host literacy awareness night

Fans of foxes in socks, places they will go, red fish and green eggs and ham will have an opportunity to hang out with their favorite rhyming feline when Auxvasse Elementary's 3-5 Professional Learning Community hosts the Cat in the Hat "Cat Tracks" tour 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 27.

The tour, sponsored the Missouri National Education Association, uses Dr. Seuss' birthday - and his popular children's books - to promote literacy.

"We had already decided on a family fun night, and we wanted to express the importance of reading - what better way than with the Cat in the Hat?" third-grade teacher Jessica Crawford said of the decision to apply for the MNEA program.

The event will include a presentation on the importance of reading by MNEA Vice President Brent Fuller, work stations with Dr. Seuss-themed activities and an appearance by the Cat in the Hat, who will pose for pictures, read stories and listen to the students read. Miss Missouri Shelbi Ringdahl also will make an appearance to promote literacy.
