Ladybirds fall to Hermann 47-20 in South Callaway title game

Junior guard Elaine Brinker led the No. 2 seed Ladybirds with nine points in a 47-20 loss to the No. 1 Hermann Lady Bearcats in the girls' championship game of the South Callaway Tournament on Saturday night.

North Callaway - ranked No. 10 in the latest MBCA/MOsports.com Class 3 poll - trailed 25-12 at halftime and got outscored 17-4 in the third quarter in falling to Hermann for the second time in three weeks. The Ladybirds fell on the road to the Lady Bearcats 56-53 on Jan. 9.

Hermann - the top-ranked team in Class 3 - got a game-high 19 points from junior forward Jamie Gleeson and 11 points from junior guard Tesla Ruediger.

North Callaway (10-2) got four points from senior guard Jaida Gray while senior forward Kelsey Coil added three points and nine rebounds. The Ladybirds play at Community R-6 in Eastern Missouri Conference play at 6 p.m. Monday in a varsity girls/boys doubleheader.

MOKANE - Senior guard Justin Menard led the No. 5 T-Birds with nine points in a loss to the No. 2 New Haven Shamrocks in the third-place game of the South Callaway Tournament on Saturday.

Senior forward Brett Metcalf added eight points and shared the team-lead in rebounds (5) with junior guard Michael Pezold. The T-Birds (4-7) trailed 20-11 at halftime and fell by the same nine-point margin despite outscoring New Haven 20-19 in the second half.

Shamrocks junior Kyle Ruediger led all players with 13 points and senior Ross Seitter added 11.

North Callaway plays in the back-half of the girls/boys EMO doubleheader against Community R-6 on Monday.
