Callaway man allegedly tries to run over police officer during arrest at traffic stop

A man Fulton police tried to arrest and shot at as he fled is still at large.

According to a press release from the Fulton Police Department, an officer attempted to arrest Lionel Shaunta Gurley, 36, during a traffic stop at Seventh and Nichols streets in Fulton at 10:49 p.m. Thursday.

Before the arrest could be made, Gurley fled in a vehicle. While he was fleeing, he attempted to hit a police officer on Nichols Street with his vehicle, the press release stated.

The officer shot several rounds at Gurley's vehicle while retreating, the press release stated.

After a short vehicle pursuit, Gurley eluded officers.

Gurley, a black male from Callaway County, is wanted for felony charges.

According to Missouri's online court records, Gurley has several pending charges related to drug possession and resisting arrest in addition to traffic-related charges.
