Ambulance board hears potential plans for station renovations

Directors vote to donate ambulances to South Callaway Fire

The Callaway County Ambulance District Board of Directors spent much of its meeting Tuesday night looking at options for the future of the district's main station.

Rick Kuhl with consulting architectural firm Williams, Spurgeon, Kuhl and Freshnock (WSKF) gave the board a design presentation on renovations to the Fulton station, walking members through the process his firm took to arrive at its final recommended plan.

Kuhl explained WSKF met with ambulance district administrators and staff to identify needs and wants, developed a list of considerations based on a site assessment and worked to determine space needs before developing several conceptual designs. Those designs were presented to the building committee, and input from that meeting was used to put together the final conceptual design presented during Tuesday night's meeting.

The preliminary design adds up to 8,500 square feet, and also re-configures much of the existing space.

Some of the key changes include controlled access to the building, additional parking space, an additional 539 square feet of training space and a new, sloped floor in the garage bays.

According to Kuhl's presentation, the key accomplishments of the proposed remodel include:

•Improved zoning of space, with administrative, apparatus, living, training and support areas grouped together.

•Improved control of access and "public" versus "private" spaces for management and security purposes.

•Improved operations support with new designated space for medicine storage, infection control, drainage and other issues.

•Additional on-site parking with improved access/circulation through the lot.

The board did not discuss the proposal.
