Hornets tumble to Kirksville 63-56 in NCMC loss

Junior guard Ricky Dawson guided the Hornets with a game-high 22 points, but Fulton's flat third quarter was their downfall in a 63-56 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Kirksville Tigers on Tuesday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Dawson put up 16 of those points in the first half as the Hornets led 14-13 after the first quarter and were tied with the Tigers 31-all at halftime.

"We talked about defense at halftime and making some defensive adjustments, and we just came out in the third quarter and couldn't make baskets," Fulton head coach Ryan Shaw said.

Kirksville scored the first five points of the second half to go out in for good. The Hornets, meanwhile, turned the ball over five consecutive possessions in the third and committed eight of their 12 total turnovers in that frame. That didn't do much good for their offense, which got outscored 19-8 in the third quarter as they trailed 50-39 to start the final quarter.

MOKANE - Junior guard Troy Hentges poured in a game-high 21 points to spark the Bulldogs to a Show-Me Conference win over the Wildcats on Monday night.

Junior guard Cory Hanger was the only other South Callaway player in double figures with 10 points. Senior forward Ethan Ward added eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while senior guard Garner Rudroff chipped in seven points.

Hetges added six rebounds and senior forward Cody Vandelicht tallied seven boards while blocking three shots for the Bulldogs.

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Junior guard Mykaela Bonnett led the Lady Wildcats' cause with 18 points in their Show-Me Conference triumph over the Eugene Lady Eagles in Tuesday night's home finale.

Eugene banked in two 3-pointers in its 16-point first quarter and rode a five-point advantage into the second quarter.

"They had a girl inside that was able to get some offensive rebounds," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "We just had to clean some things up and tell them where they needed to be a little better.

"It was just one of those things where they were hitting things early and we weren't. We hung in and had a great second quarter."

New Bloomfield (12-10, 3-3) torched the Eagles 20-6 in the second quarter as they settled down defensively and forced the Lady Eagles to work against the Lady Wildcats' halfcourt defense. The adjustment allowed them to take a 31-22 lead into the break.
