Missouri School for the Deaf are tournament champions once again.

Senior guard Nick Jones scored a game-high 25 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field in the Eagles’ 53-46 dispatching of the Minnesota Academy of the Deaf Trojans in the championship game of the 24th annual Great Plains School for the Deaf Tournament on Saturday on the MSD campus.

TIPTON — Senior forward Brett Metcalf led all players with 21 points and eight rebounds in the Thunderbirds’ win over the Tipton Cardinals on Saturday.

Metcalf also connected on 5-of-5 free throws while senior guard Chance Kee added seven. Junior guard Brandon Hagedorn and senior guard Justin Menard each handed out five assists.

North Callaway (10-12) trailed 22-20 at halftime, but outscored the Cardinals 18-12 in the third quarter to take a four-point advantage into the final quarter.

Dylan Cooper scored 18 points and Grant Huhman added 15 for Tipton (15-6). It was the Cardinals’ second loss in a row after they’d won their previous 11 games.
