An autopsy on the body of a Kansas City woman found in a field near a gas station in Holts Summit has yet to yield conclusive results, a press release from the Holts Summit Police Department states.
The autopsy on Jessica Murafetis, 44, was completed and "no obvious signs of traumas were discovered," according to the release sent out this morning.
The official cause of death is still undetermined at this time. Toxicology results will likely take several months to return from the lab.
Investigators have initially treated the case as a homicide due to the condition of the body when it was found. Her body was discovered in olive-drab USMC sweatpants and a red long-sleeve T-shirt around 11:30 a.m. Thursday by an Exxon Mobil customer in a field behind the gas station, near a gravel lot on the north side of the station where tractor-trailers typically park.
Because the cause of death is still unknown, investigators are continuing to follow up on the case.
The release states "information obtained from the public has been of great assistance to investigators and numerous leads have led to valuable information."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Bryan Reid with HSPD at (573) 896‐8431, or Callaway County Crime Stoppers at (573) 592‐2474.
