Ladybirds edge past Father Tolton 39-36 at Southern Boone Classic

Junior guard Elaine Brinker logged seven of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as the second-seeded Ladybirds edged out the No. 7 Father Tolton Lady Trailblazers 39-36 in the first round of the 2014 Southern Boone Classic on Monday night.

North Callaway (13-4) shot just 22 percent in the first half and rebounded from a 10-5 deficit after one quarter to trail just 19-16 at the end of the first half.

The Ladybirds outscored the Lady Trailblazers 8-4 in the third quarter to grab a 24-23 lead after the third quarter and outpaced them 15-13 in the final 8 minutes. A Brinker 3-pointer with 36 seconds left gave North Callaway the lead for good at 37-35.

Kansas School for the Deaf 47

The Eagles outscored the Kansas School for the Deaf Jackrabbits 12-10 in the fourth quarter as they held on for a homecoming win on Saturday night.

Missouri School for the Deaf held a 24-22 lead at halftime, but the Jackrabbits outscored the Eagles 15-13 in the third quarter to tie the game at 37-all entering the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Nick Jones topped all players with 32 points, including a 7-of-8 clip from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Joseph Allen logged nine points, junior forward Benson Goodwin had six and and sophomore forward Terrell Owens added two.
