Bulldogs stifle Centralia thanks to stout defense

A staunch showing on defense helped the South Callaway Bulldogs remain unblemished.

Senior guard Troy Hentges was the only player in double figures, logging a game-high 23 points to push the Bulldogs past the Centralia Panthers 67-35 at the MRMC Holiday Shootout on Monday at Moberly Area Community College.

A quartet of South Callaway players collected four steals as the Bulldogs finished with 18 thefts.

"This was one of our best defensive efforts of the year," South Callaway head coach Tony Brandt said. "We are still learning and working through some things on the defensive end, but we turned a corner in this game and hope to continue to build."

The Bulldogs (7-0) built a 19-7 lead through one quarter, then pushed their advantage to 39-18 at halftime.

South Callaway senior forward Luke Horstman finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, while senior forward Jacob Smith and junior guard Logan Taylor each scored seven.

Senior guard Dax Helsel posted five points and handed out five assists, while senior guard Terry Miles also logged five points and added three blocks.

Sophomore guard Jonathan Randolph and Riley Salisbury each led Centralia with eight points.
