McIntire receives literacy grant

Dollar General, Reading is Fundamental partner to help school get more books

Students at McIntire Elementary have some new books to read thanks to Dollar General and Reading Is Fundamental.

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) recently selected McIntire to receive $2,620 to provide books and encourage an interest in reading. According to a press release, the grant was funded through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

"Dollar General shares our vision of a literate America and understands the transformative power of reading," RIF CEO and President Carol H. Rasco said in the release. "With their support, we are taking books that will open new doors to the children who most need them."

McIntire reading intervention teacher/literacy coach Linda Williams said in the release that the funds provided by Dollar General and RIF will give students the tools to succeed and motivation toward a lifetime of reading.

"Books have the power to show children new perspectives on their lives and inspire them to imagine bigger futures," Williams said.
