South Callaway girls use free throws in SMC win over Eugene

The Lady Bulldogs connected on 13-of-28 free throws in the fourth quarter to rally past the Lady Eagles 65-61 in Show-Me Conference action Friday night.

South Callaway (4-2, 1-1 SMC) hit 23-of-36 overall from the line as it overcame a 53-37 deficit entering the fourth quarter.

"Eugene got in a little foul trouble at the end and lost some players, and we actually played really, really well in the end and hit free throws," Lady Bulldogs head coach Darren Humphrey said. "That was the key."

Mikenzie Farris and Allison Isenberg combined for 15 points to push Eugene to an 18-9 lead after one quarter. South Callaway responded with a 17-13 scoring edge in the second quarter to trail 31-26 at the break.

Farris paced Eugene with 13 points, while Isenberg and Lexi Dickerson both totalled 11.

"I'm proud of the team as a whole for getting down and coming back," Humphrey said. "As young as we are, they played like a more mature team than we had in the past."

The Lady Bulldogs (3-1) triumphed in the junior varsity game 44-34. Freshman guard Ashley Potter logged a team-high 18, while freshman guard Ellie Dunnavant had nine.
