New Bloomfield girls beat Jamestown, stretch streak to four games

The Lady Wildcats logged their fourth straight victory with a 54-40 triumph over the Lady Eagles at the Missouri National Guard Shootout on Saturday at Jefferson City High School.

New Bloomfield (7-2) built on its 16-15 first-quarter lead with a 15-6 scoring edge in the second quarter to carry a 31-21 advantage into halftime.

"We picked up our defense a bit, but we made a conscious effort to get the ball inside," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "We beat their pressure, we got up and down the floor and I'm proud of that."

After Jamestown knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half, Craighead adjusted his team's defensive scheme with the hope of forcing the Lady Eagles to try and work the ball on the interior.

New Bloomfield limited Jamestown to a single 3-pointer in the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles 23-19 during that span.

"Our goal was to make them beat us inside and take away their outside shot, and I thought we did that pretty well," Craighead said.

Freshman guard Madi Craighead tallied a game-high 14 points and handed out five assists to lead the Lady Wildcats. Senior forward Ashley Kelley tacked on 13 points and senior forward Taylor Howard logged 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior center Zoe Welschmeyer also finished with eight points and nine rebounds for New Bloomfield.

Jamestown was led by twins Lexi and Alli Muri, who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
