Westminster men top SLIAC foe Blackburn to snap skid

Three double-digit scorers and a 49 percent shooting clip sparked Westminster to a 72-64 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over the Blackburn Beavers on Saturday at Westminster Gym.

The Blue Jays (2-6, 1-2 SLIAC) snapped a three-game losing skid with the victory.

Westminster connected on 22-of-45 from the floor, while converting 48 percent (10-of-21) from 3-point range.

The Blue Jays grabbed the advantage early in the first half and held onto it throughout, stretching the margin to as many as 12 points in the waning moments of the half. Westminster took a 38-27 lead into intermission.

Sophomore forward Tanner Gentges paced the Blue Jays with 16 points on 5-of-7 field goals, while knocking down 2-of-3 attempts from 3-point range. Senior guard Brandon Moore added 14 points, hitting 3-of-6 from long range, and junior guard Brandon Drum scored 10.

Freshman guard Tanner Cochran collected nine points and team-high eight rebounds as Westminster bested the Beavers on the boards 35-28.

Blackburn (2-6, 1-2 SLIAC) finished at 39 percent from the floor and was paced by Tommy Ulinski's game-high 21 points. Henry Hicks scored 15 points, Chris Davis posted 10 and Jamie Moore led all players with 12 rebounds.

The Blue Jays play a non-conference contest at Simpson (Iowa) College at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
