WWU's Becker tabbed as honorable mention NAIA All-American

Lady Owls junior outside hitter Emily Becker was recently slotted as a Tachikara-NAIA honorable mention All-American.

Becker is just the third player in William Woods history to earn such an honor.

On the season, she totaled 379 kills and surpassed the 1,000-kill barrier for her career in a five-set loss to MidAmerica Nazarene on Sept. 11 at Anderson Arena.

Becker posted an attack mark of 27 percent and served a team-leading 49 aces. She collected 280 digs and blocked 91 shots in claiming a third straight first-team all-American Midwest Conference selection.

"I think it's a good step forward for our program, as it's the first All-American nomination since 2009 and the third one in the history of William Woods," head coach Monica Herschelman said. "She still has a lot of room for growth, but it's exciting (that) she is only a junior, so she gets to put a statement on her senior year of bigger and better things."

The Lady Owls (23-16) ended their 2014 campaign in a straight-set loss to Park University in the AMC Tournament semifinals on Nov. 13 in Parkville.
