WWU students awarded as outstanding students in their major

The Missouri Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance State Convention honored four William Woods University students last month.

The awarded the Outstanding Student Major Award to senior exercise science major Grace Fritz of Washington, Missouri; junior athletic training major Rachel Frabotta of Sterling Heights, Michigan; senior physical education major Mariah Wheaton of Independence, Missouri; and senior sports management major James Ball of House Springs, Missouri.

Anthony Lungstrum, chair of the science, math and human performance division and assistant professor of athletic training, said in a university press release that the four students who received the award "have taken full advantage of their academic programs and we look forward to following their professional careers after graduation."

The convention was Nov. 13-16 at the Lodge of the Four Seasons. Each school could select an outstanding student in each major offered at their school. Lungstrum; Timothy Hanrahan, assistant professor of physical education; and Cindy Robb, assistant professor of athletic training nominated the WWU students.

Wheaton said in a university press release that she was honored just to be nominated for the award and was even more honored to receive it.

"Just makes me feel that all my work and time has actually come to mean something at the end of my college career," Wheaton said in the release.
