Westminster men fall at home to Central (Iowa) College

The Blue Jays slipped to 1-6 on the season and suffered their third straight loss after being overpowered by the visiting Dutch 91-68 in Tuesday night's non-conference matchup.

Westminster College trailed 45-29 at halftime and was not able to close the gap in the second half.

Senior guard Brandon Moore finished with 18 points to lead three players in double figures for the Blue Jays, who shot 42 percent (25-of-60) as a team and committed 12 turnovers. Moore was 6-of-9 from the field, hitting both of his 3-point attempts, and made all four of his free throws.

Junior forward Matt Murphy also provided 12 points for Westminster, while freshman guard Tanner Cochran came off the bench to contribute 10. Moore collected a game-high nine rebounds to spur the Blue Jays to a 35-30 edge on the boards.

Nile Eckermann was 6-of-9 from the field - all from 3-point range - to guide four players in double figures with a game-high 21 points for Central College (5-1). Eckermann knocked down all three of his free-throw attempts.

Colby Taylor chipped in with 17 points for the Dutch, followed by Aaron Rosenstiel with 16 and Kyle Newendorp with 12. Central shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field and had only seven turnovers.

Westminster returns to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play when it hosts Blackburn (Illinois) College at 5 p.m. Saturday.
