Volkart, Lady Owls top AMC foe Williams Baptist

William Woods sophomore center Kennedy Volkart's career-high 21 points led all players in a 64-51 AMC win over the Williams Baptist Lady Eagles on Saturday.

The Lady Owls (8-1, 4-0 American Midwest Conference) have now won seven straight games.

Volkart connected on 10-of-18 field goals, while also hauling in a game-high nine rebounds.

Defensively, William Woods limited the Lady Eagles 32 percent shooting (19-of-60), including a 35 percent clip after halftime. The Lady Owls carried a 28-26 edge into halftime and pushed that advantage out to as high as 17 points late in the second half.

William Woods junior forward Nia Lateju scored 11 points and collected seven rebounds as the Lady Owls' other double-digit scorer.

The Lady Owls converted 41 percent of their field goals (24-of-58) and outrebounded Williams Baptist 45-36.

The Lady Eagles (3-5, 2-2) were led by Alisha Stone's 19-point outing, while Meagan Goza pitched in 12. Michaela Thompson led the team with seven rebounds.

William Woods hosts AMC foe Freed-Hardeman at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Anderson Arena.
