Lee's 21 points can push Westminster men past Greenville

Senior guard Verdis Lee Jr. logged a game-high 21 points as the Blue Jays bowed to the Panthers 73-62 in SLIAC play on Saturday.

Lee - a Fulton graduate - finished 6-of-14 from the field, 7-of-7 from the line and led the team with five rebounds.

Westminster (1-5, 0-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) fell behind 13-0 to start the game, but drew to within 29-27 at the break. After the Blue Jays pulled in front 36-35 early in the second half, Greenville posted a 12-0 run to grab an 11-point advantage.

Westminster never drew any closer than three points for the rest of the game.

Senior guard Brandon Moore scored 19 points for the Blue Jays and connected on 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Westminster shot 32 percent (21-of-65) as a team and 38 percent (9-of-24) from beyond the arc.

Forward Andrew Scott posted a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Panthers. Greenville guard Brian Ehresman added 11 points, including all three of his 3-point attempts.

The Panthers (4-3, 2-0) were 53 percent from the floor (27-of-51) and 42 percent (5-of-12) from the long distance. Greenville outrebounded Westminster 42-35.

The Blue Jays host Central (Iowa) College at 7 tonight at Westminster Gymnasium.
