Fulton girls top Blair Oaks in home opener

Junior guard Sloane Totta netted a team-high 20 points as the Lady Hornets held off the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons 55-49 in their home opener on Monday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Fulton (4-0) converted 44 percent from the floor (15-of-34) and connected on 40 percent from 3-point range (6-of-15).

After leading just 15-14 at half, the Lady Hornets outscored Blair Oaks 15-8 in the second quarter to grab an eight-point lead at the break.

"We stopped coming out and trying to block 3-point shots," Fulton head coach TJ Quick said of the second quarter. "We made adjustments on closing out defensively."

Lady Hornets junior forward NaShayla Brandt scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while junior guard Rachel Guse' posted 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. Fulton finished the game with a 35-27 rebounding advantage.

Chelsi Emerson paced the Lady Falcons with a game-high 25 points as Blair Oaks shot 59 percent (20-of-34) from the floor.

The Lady Hornets won their JV opener 44-16. Michaela Huff led Fulton with six points and two steals, while Hannah Cerda had four points and led with six rebounds.

Fulton opens North Central Missouri Conference play at home against Marshall at 6 p.m. Thursday.
