Fulton boys claim Montgomery County Tournament title

Seniors Ricky Dawson and Austin Wilson each netted a game-high 20 points to vault the top-seeded Hornets to a 80-76 overtime victory over the No. 2 Bobcats at the Montgomery County Tournament on Saturday night.

Wilson - a forward - gave Fulton the lead for good at 77-76 with a basket late in the extra period. He hit on 6-of-7 field goals and pulled down six rebounds en route to an all-tournament team selection.

Dawson also garnered all-tournament recognition at guard, hitting on 5-of-15 from the floor and also collecting six rebounds.

"There weren't a lot of people that could get between them and the basket," Hornets head coach Ryan Shaw said. "They scored for us when we needed it and they were able to get baskets for us down the stretch when we needed them, too."

Junior guard Kalin Mitchell logged 15 points and handed out four assists, while senior forwards Sam Christensen and Devin Gibson contributed double-doubles for Fulton.

Gibson scored 12 points and led all players with 14 rebounds, while Christensen scored 10 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Hornets outgained Bowling Green on the glass 50-39.

The Bobcats knotted the game at 68-all late in the fourth when Tyess Chatman converted a field goal and drew a foul on Wilson. Chatman missed the free throw, while an attempted shot by Dawson at a game-winning shot came up short in Fulton's final possession in regulation.

Bowling Green grabbed a 76-73 lead in the overtime period, but back-to-back field goals by Wilson gave the Hornets the lead for good.

Fulton (3-0) finished 44 percent from the floor (20-of-46) and 73 percent (22-of-30) from the line.

"Neither team could stop each other on the defensive end and, in the end, we were able to grind out a few more baskets and get to the free throw line.

Adam Holt guided the Bobcats with 18 points and Chatman scored 15, while both players led the team with seven rebounds. Alex Roy finished with 15 points and Cory Buchanan contributed 11. Bowling Green finished an even 50 percent from the field (24-of-48).
