New Bloomfield blasts Climax Springs in Tipton Tournament quarterfinals

Four double-digit scorers sparked the second-seeded Lady Wildcats to an 86-24 rout of the No. 7 Lady Cougars in the quarterfinals of the Tipton Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

New Bloomfield (2-1) exploded in the first quarter to establish a 30-point cushion after a frame, then maintained that momentum for a 56-16 advantage at halftime.

"We got off to a really good start," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "We were hitting shots and we really passed the ball well; I thought our teamwork was exceptional and we really tried to find the open man."

Senior guard Sydni Bedsworth and sophomore guard Baylee Garrett each logged 13 points to pace all scorers. Senior center Zoe Welschmeyer finished with 12 points and freshman guard Madi Craighead chipped in with 10.

Senior guard Mykaela Bonnett added nine points as every New Bloomfield player that stepped on the floor scored a point. Summer Wallace led Climax Springs with 10 points.

The Lady Wildcats will play either No. 3 Macks Creek or No. 6 Smithton in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
