Brinker drives in seven as Ladybirds blast Van-Far

Ladybirds senior shortstop Elaine Brinker beat up on the Van-Far Lady Indians' pitching, driving in seven RBIs in North Callaway's 16-3 five-inning triumph on Thursday.

Brinker finished 4-for-4 with a double and a triple as the Ladybirds erupted for 16 hits.

"They really took advantage of the good pitches and they were letting the bad pitches go, which is what they needed to do," said North Callaway assistant coach Hannah Taylor, who filled in for head coach Brandi Thomsen while she was home sick. "They were selectively aggressive at the plate, which is what we teach them to do."

The Ladybirds (3-0) plated five in the top of the second inning, thanks in large part to a three-run triple by Brinker. North Callaway added another run on a Van-Far error while senior first baseman Danielle Cassidy capped off the frame with an RBI single.

North Callaway added four more runs in the third frame, six in the fourth and seven in the fifth frame.

Junior Taylor Wiseman took over for Cassidy at first base and finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while junior left fielder Karlie Popp went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI.

Junior right fielder Patri Eckert and junior third baseman Shannon Haley each went 2-for-4.

Junior pitcher Madison Ausfahl struck out three in earning the complete-game win for the Ladybirds. Ausfahl allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks.

North Callaway ran its JV record to 1-1 with a 5-4 victory.

The Ladybirds host Wright City in their Eastern Missouri Conference opener at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
