Phones down at court house Tuesday, should be up Wednesday

A miscommunication led to no communication at the Callaway County Courthouse on Tuesday.

According to Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann, phones at the courthouse were disconnected Monday night due to a miscommunicaion between AT&T and Charter Communications regarding the transfer of several lines between the two companies.

"We removed three lines from road and bridge from AT&T and switched them over to Charter to bundle with our internet," Jungermann said Tuesday afternoon. "Instead of porting over those three lines, all the lines were shut down - about 90 phone lines were disconnected last night (Monday)."

Calls placed to the county commission, county clerk, circuit court offices, the extension at the county health department and other county offices Tuesday resulted in the message that "this number has been disconnected or is no longer in service."

"We've been doing the best we can with our cell phones," Jungermann said.

He said he was in contact with both service providers throughout the day, and by 5 p.m. Tuesday was assured that the phone lines were being reconnected and "over the next two hours we should have them back up again."

"If we do not have phones (Wednesday), we will make some sort of public announcement and come up with a Plan B about how people can communicate with the court house," Jungermann said.
