Lady Hornets thumped by Eldon in five innings

The Fulton Lady Hornets had as many errors (six) as they did hits in a 14-0, five-inning loss to the Eldon Lady Mustangs in their home opener Tuesday night at the high school athletic complex.

Eldon grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning with five runs off Fulton senior starter Brooke Baysinger. The Lady Mustangs added another run in the third, five more in the fourth and topped off the convincing win with three in the fifth.

Baysinger (0-2) threw four innings and allowed 11 runs - four earned - on just five hits. She walked four and struck out one.

Senior center fielder Haylee Ebersole went 1-for-2 for Fulton, while senior shortstop Dacrie Depping and junior third baseman Baileigh Horstmeier were both 1-for-3.

"I think defensively we need to make routine plays to back up our pitchers," Lady Hornets head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said. "And at the plate, we have to string together hits."

The Lady Hornets dropped the junior varsity game 4-0 in three innings. The game was called because of lightning.

Fulton begins North Central Missouri Conference play when it hosts Marshall at 5 p.m. Thursday.
