Blue Jays picked 7th in UMAC football poll

The Westminster College Blue Jays football team was picked to finish seventh in the 2014 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference coaches’ poll announced Wednesday.

Westminster — entering its 16th season under head coach John Welty — received 32 points in the poll. The Blue Jays bring back 15 starters from their 2013 squad that finished 2-8 overall and tied for eighth in the UMAC with a 2-7 mark.

Defending conference champion College of St. Scholastica (Minnesota) was selected to finish first again by UMAC coaches, earning 74 points and five first-place votes.

Westminster opens the 2014 season at home against Hendrix (Arkansas) College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Priest Field.
