New Bloomfield Education Foundation holds Hog Wild event

— The New Bloomfield Education Foundation (NBEF) is sponsoring Hog Wild, a dinner and auction, from 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. Hog Wild will be held in New Bloomfield off Highway J, across from the fire department.

The dinner will include games for kids and music. Proceeds go towards the Education Foundation’s grant program. NBEF President Angie Robinson Sullivan said the foundation has distributed classroom grants for three years.

“We feel they(the grants) are very important to the students in such a small school distrirct,” Robinson Sullivan said. “It is a bridge program, if you will, It helps fill a gap that the school budget doesn’t necessarily.”

Teachers can apply for grants in September. The foundation awards grants in October and teachers have through the end of the school year to spend the money in the classroom.

Hog Wild is one avenue the foundations uses to raise funds. The prices for the event are: $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, children under 5 are free. The dinner menu includes pulled pork, hot dogs, cole slaw, baked beans, pasta salad and dessert.

The dinner will have a dj playing music and a live auction. Some of the items up for auction include Cardinals tickets, a Cardinals’ jersey and some home-made items.

NBEF was founded in 2011 by alumni and friends of the New Bloomfield Schools. Since then, the foundation has awarded more than $25,000 in classroom grants.
