William Woods has guaranteed itself a spot in the NAIA National Tournament.
The 21st-ranked Lady Owls swept the Lyon (Ark.) Lady Scots by scores of 8-2 and 2-0, respectively on Saturday to secure the program's first American Midwest Conference regular season championship since 2009.
With the victories, William Woods (34-15, 20-2) locked up the No. 1 seed in this weekend's AMC tournament while qualifying for the national tournament for a second straight season. The Lady Owls' first-round opponent in the conference tournament has yet to be determined.
"It's great to bring the AMC trophy back to Fulton," head coach Tracy Gastineau said. "We play in a large and diverse conference, so to win that regular season championship is no easy feat. I am very proud of this team."

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Senior first baseman Rai'an Harris drove in eight RBIs in the Lady Blue Jays' doubleheader sweep of the Lady Highlanders to close out their SLIAC schedule on Saturday.
Harris went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the day's second game while smacking two home runs and driving in a single-game school-record six runs in the opener for Westminster (14-20, 11-7 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Blue Jays collected 27 hits over a two-game span in its doubleheader sweep of the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (17-9, 11-7 SLIAC) produced 17 hits in its second game, including three-hit efforts by senior shortstop Danton Hughes, junior third baseman Tyler Branneky and sophomore designated hitter Ryan Loethen. All three finished the game 3-for-5 with Branneky driving in two runs and Hughes totaling one RBI.

Westminster sets eight modern
day records at Mule Relays
WARRENSBURG - Blue Jays senior Gus Lyles broke modern-day school records in the discus and shot put at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays last Friday.
Lyles tossed the discus 32.28 meters to break his own record mark while finishing the shot put with a throw of 10.91 to also outdo his own previous mark.
Sophomore Christian Houston topped the previous program-high in the hammer throw by five meters with a heave of 32.48. Sophomore Bret Robinson notched his own modern-day record, throwing the javelin 46.37 to come in 12th place.
