Lady Owls move win streak to eight games

The dominance of the William Woods University Lady Owls pitching staff continued, even if its scoreless stretch was stopped.

Senior MacKenzie Bowden threw a perfect game in sparking William Woods to a 12-0, five-inning blitz of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in the opener of Saturday’s American Midwest Conference doubleheader at Backer Sports Complex.

Bowden (14-7) struck out 12 on 71 pitches in her outing as she remained a perfect 5-0 in AMC starts with a 0.00 earned-run average.

William Woods (26-14, 12-1) completed a sweep of Freed-Hardeman with a 4-2 win in the second game, extending its winning streak to eight games while its pitchers’ collective run of scoreless innings ended at 40 1/3 innings. The Lady Owls’ offense is in the midst of its own hot streak, outscoring opponents by a stunning 77-2 during the winning streak.
