Fulton woman to aid in Colorado relief efforts

A Fulton woman is on her way to assist in flood relief efforts.

Shirley Kunkle has been volunteering for the Red Cross since 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devastated the coast of Louisiana. The Fulton resident left for Colorado this morning to help recent flood victims.

Kunkle, who is trained as a school psychologist and worked as one for several years, will help supervise mental health services when she arrives. She is a trained Red Cross disaster volunteer.

According to Kunkle, disaster relief efforts have a high demand for mental health professionals, but due to a shortage of those trained professionals, they need everyone they can get.

"They're always desperate for mental health people," Kunkle said.
