Tori Murden McClure, the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat, opened this year’s symposium at Westminster College with jokes, wisdom and an understanding of sports and their connection to everyday life.
Before McClure began, the audience was informed of a special surprise by President Barney Forsythe — the Westminster Symposium has been endowed by alumnus David Hancock. Due to Hancock’s donation, the symposium will be able to continue perpetually, and now will be referred to as the Hancock Symposium in honor of the gift.
