Brick District to host Harvest Festival

Event to replace Halloween activity, serve as fundraiser for Callaway County Humane Society

The Brick District Association and the Callaway County Humane Society are hosting a Harvest Festival in downtown Fulton Oct. 26.

The event - intended to celebrate the end of the season for the Fulton Farmers Market, draw shoppers into the district and raise money for the humane society - will replace the past annual Halloween Festival typically put on by the downtown businesses.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be an expanded farmers market, local art and craft vendors, games and activities for children. Admission is a suggested donation of one can of dog food, and vendors will donate some of their proceeds to the humane society.

Well Read Books owner Danielle Warren pointed out during the Brick District Association meeting Thursday morning that turning the downtown trick-or-treating into more of a festival last year "seemed to be more interactive" than the former tradition and proved to be a popular change.

"We thought we could tie that in with this event on Saturday, which will be a family event, not just for (children) fifth grade and younger," Warren said.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
