North Callaway R-I Superintendent Bryan Thomsen pleaded guilty in Linn County court earlier this summer to charges of driving while intoxicated in 2012.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol probable cause statement, Thomsen was pulled over on May 26, 2012, when a patrol officer clocked a brown Ford pickup truck going 9 mph over the speed limit on Missouri Highway 11 while leaving Brookfield.
Thomsen was identified as the driver of the vehicle, and according to the probable cause statement prepared by trooper M. Lewis, he was observed to have bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
"I asked Thomsen how much alcohol he had drank, and he advised me he had "a couple beers tonight,'" Lewis wrote in the statement.
The statement goes on to state that Thomsen's appearance and performance in a series of field sobriety tests led the trooper to believe he was intoxicated. According to the statement, a preliminary breath test was positive for alcohol, and after being transported to the Brookfield Police Department, Thomsen provided a breath sample which registered at .110 percent. The legal limit in Missouri is .08 percent.
Thomsen eventually was charged with misdemeanor driving while under the influence and failure to register a motor vehicle.
Thomsen pleaded guilty to both of those charges on June 20 this year. He received two years unsupervised probation on the DWI charge and was fined for the failure to register.
Thomsen said Friday afternoon he was sorry for his decision to drive while under the influence.
"In May of 2012 I made a mistake. I want to apologize to everyone associated with the North Callaway district for that mistake," Thomsen said, noting that he had satisfied the requirements of the state and would have a clean record if he is involved in no other incidents throughout the next two years. "Bottom line, I just want to apologize."
