South Callaway falls short in rally for Class 2 softball championship

Bad inning short-circuits Lady Bulldogs' rally

The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs showed some grit in scrambling back, but couldn't survive a nightmarish inning.

South Callaway - jolted by Bishop LeBlond's six-run outburst in the third inning and down 8-0 at one point - staged a rally in the late innings but couldn't complete the plucky comeback in falling to the Lady Eagles 8-6 in the Class 2 state softball championship Saturday morning at the Killian Softball Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs, pursuing their first state title in school history while making their initial trip to the Class 2 final four, ended the season with a 24-5 record. (St. Joseph) Bishop LeBlond - which was Class 2 runner-up in 2004 - secured its first state championship in finishing with a 26-3 record.
