Jaycees bring spooky fun in Graveyard Smash Derby

The Fulton Jaycees are giving a chance for area automotive Frankensteins to show off their monsters.

They will be holding their 2013 Graveyard Smash demolition derby 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Callaway County fairgrounds. Admission is $5 per person with children 6 and under getting in free.

Registration begins at noon with the derby kicking off at 1 p.m. There will also be a costume contest for children ages 0-3, 4-7 and 8-12 with trophies at 12:30 p.m.

The Graveyard Smash Derby will feature compact, stock and modified classes. Event organizer John Ollar said that in the Jaycees had tried a mud run for the past few years, but wanted to return to their original demolition derby format to hold a fall event that families wanted to come out and enjoy.

"We just want to go back to the old-style rules to make it a little more fun for spectators," Ollar said. "The compacts draw a crowd, it's just little cars and they do some really good hitting."
