WARDSVILLE - The Blair Oaks Falcons, aided by a wicked wind, extinguished the South Callaway Bulldogs' hopes again of making it to the Class 2 quarterfinals for the first time.
Blair Oaks benefitted from South Callaway's punting hardships while kicking into the wind in the third quarter, and the Falcons scored 10 points during that span to knock off the Bulldogs 17-7 in the District 6 championship Monday night.
No. 2 seed South Callaway - ranked sixth in the state - had its five-game winning streak halted in ending the season with a 10-2 record. The Bulldogs bowed to Blair Oaks for the second straight year for the District 6 title, after losing to the Falcons in the sectional round under the previous playoff format in 2011.
