Tornado watch in effect for Callaway County until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Callaway County. The watch also includes the Central Missouri counties of Cole, Boone, Gasconade, Moniteau, Montgomery, Audrain, and Osage. It also includes all of eastern Missouri.

A tornado watch was issued at 12:35 p.m. today and is in effect until 8 p.m. today.

A tornado watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in or close to the watch area. The National Weather Service advises to be on the lookout for the following warning signs:

•Dark, often greenish skies

•Large hail

•A large, dark, low-lying or rotating cloud

•A loud roar, similar to a freight train.

If any of these signs are observed, be prepared to take shelter immediately.
